LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Northeast Area Command is ramping up efforts to combat crime, as robberies and attempted robberies continue to plague the area.
Capt. Jonathan Riddle, who took command earlier this year, announced an increase in police resources over the coming weeks. “We are going to have an increase in resources in the immediate area over the next several weeks,” Riddle said. “I think through, just seeing the police interaction and more officers in the area that that will provide some solace for them and hopefully they can experience a nice calming factor as a result.”
The move comes after a Sunday night attempted robbery near Lake Mead and Nellis resulted in a shooting victim being hospitalized. The Northeast Command has reported the highest number of robberies in the metro area, with incidents slightly up from last year. Despite the challenges, overall crime in the command is down from last year.
Riddle emphasized the importance of community interaction, stating, “We want to go out there and interact with them so that they know that the people that live in the neighborhood that are good people that want to see police interaction and have a safe neighborhood, that they are welcome to talk to us.”…
