Domestic violence homicides on the rise in Las Vegas despite overall murder rate decline

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Domestic violence–related homicides now account for a growing share of all murders in the Las Vegas metropolitan area, even as police report a decline in total murder numbers.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police reported 61 homicides so far in 2025 as of October 5, of which 16 are identified as domestic violence-related. The weekly murder stat sheet shows it’s the leading cause of fatal violence in the jurisdiction. Meanwhile, overall murders are down about 31 percent compared to the same period last year, 61 compared to 88.

The Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence reports that in Clark County, there were 42 domestic violence–related homicides in 2024, down from 56 in 2023.
