Pile burns in mountains west of Las Vegas could bring smoke next week

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Smoke from the mountains west of Las Vegas might be visible next week as controlled burns are planned in the Lovell Canyon area.

Officials from the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest announced plans to begin prescribed pile burns across 150 acres along Lovell Canyon Road, about 15 miles west of Las Vegas. The area is near SR160 between Las Vegas and Pahrump.

Residents might see or smell smoke during the burns, that are expected from Monday, Oct. 20, through Friday, Oct. 24, if weather conditions allow.
