LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The company building a $21 billion high-speed train between Las Vegas and the Los Angeles area will begin working this week to put infrastructure in place for its flagship station in the south valley, according to a Monday news release.
Two projects are planned on Las Vegas Boulevard South between Warm Springs Road and Robindale Road. One is scheduled overnight on Thursday, Oct. 23, and the other will take about three weeks beginning on Monday, Oct. 27, Brightline West officials said.
On Thursday, from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m., crews will remove the center median along Las Vegas Boulevard in preparation for upcoming traffic lane shifts. Minimal traffic disruptions are expected during the overnight work, and travel lanes are expected to remain open. Brightline West advises drivers to use caution and obey traffic signs.

On Monday, Oct. 27, and scheduled to go on for three weeks, construction will begin on a box culvert and sewer line improvements near the future Las Vegas Station site. The site is just west of Las Vegas South Premium Outlets, along Interstate 15. When it’s complete, the high-speed train will run in the I-15 median between Las Vegas and Rancho Cucamonga, where passengers will connect to existing rail service into L.A.
During the three-week project, all northbound lanes will remain open on Las Vegas Boulevard. Southbound traffic will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes, and a lane shift will move traffic into the area where the meedian was removed. That will allow crews to install a new storm drain under the road and realign an existing sewer line near the site.
