Nevada ACLU sues Las Vegas Police over alleged immigration detention violations

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A recent lawsuit filed by the Nevada ACLU against the Las Vegas Metro Police Department (LVMPD) has intensified scrutiny over the department’s cooperation with federal immigration authorities, raising concerns about unlawful detention practices that potentially undermine both state law and judicial authority.

The suit, filed on October 13, targets the LVMPD’s June 16 agreement with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), alleging violations of individual rights in a case involving Sergio Morais-Hechacarria.
