LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Southwest Gas and NV Energy are offering utility assistance to customers struggling to pay their bills amid the government shutdown, according to a company spokesperson.

It has been nearly a month since the government shutdown. Some federal employees have been furloughed, and families across the country are experiencing food insecurity.

SW Gas, which operates in Arizona, Nevada, and parts of California, has a range of payment plans and assistance programs to support those during this difficult time.

Available Programs:

  • Deferred Payment Plan: Gives customers who qualify a chance to pay overdue bills without disrupting their services.
  • Energy Share: An emergency assistance fund, which is allocated and managed by community partners.
  • Low Income Ratepayer Assistance (LIRA): Provides a 30% discount on the “per therm” rate and reduced service charges year-round.
  • Bill Assistance: Short-term emergency aid for qualifying customers.
