Expert analyzes deadly Las Vegas school bus crash video

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — An analysis of video taken from inside a Las Vegas school bus that struck and killed a 12-year-old girl shows the crash was preventable and several things could’ve been done leading up to the deadly crash, including enforcing the law of not allowing vehicles to park in bike lanes.

Haylee Ryan died on Oct. 6 after the bicycle she was riding collided with a school bus.

8 News Now obtained the video from inside the school bus that struck her through a public records request. Erin Breen, who is the director of the Road Equity Alliance at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, said several adult drivers failed Ryan.

“No cyclist should ever have to question if they can be safely in a bike lane,” Erin Breen told 8 News Now.

Ryan was riding her bicycle home from Lied STEAM Academy at the time she was hit. According to a crash report from the Las Vegas Metro Police Department, the 75-year-old school bus driver was found at fault.
