Former Las Vegas police officer sentenced for insurance fraud scheme

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A former Las Vegas Metropolitan police officer received a suspended prison sentence of one to four years after accepting a plea deal to plead guilty to one count of police misconduct.

Christopher Michael Mitchell, 38, of Henderson, was sentenced in Clark County District Court after evidence was presented that he asked a fellow officer to file a false stolen vehicle report in May 2024 so he could pursue an illegitimate insurance claim, according to court documents.

Mitchell will be on probation for a period not to exceed 18 months. He was also ordered to complete Veteran’s Specialty Court, pay $1,000 in investigative costs, and complete a 13-week anger management course…
