Video appears to show teacher’s aide using force on Las Vegas special needs child, lawsuit says

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A Clark County School District teacher’s aide was caught on surveillance video appearing to use force against a 10-year-old special needs student, appearing to slam the child to the ground, according to a lawsuit filed by the child’s mother.

8 News Now obtained a recording of the incident that happened at Red Rock Elementary School on April 24.

The Clark County School District Police Department arrested the teacher’s aide on several charges, including attempted child abuse/neglect and battery. However, Clark County District Court records showed that the Clark County District Attorney’s office declined to pursue charges.

Yazmina Ruiz, the child’s mother, filed a lawsuit on Monday against CCSD and told 8 News Now she is taking justice into her own hands.

“I was hurt. Upset, and I was really, really upset with the district,” Ruiz said after watching the video…
