Social media videos of apparent machete and alcohol giveaways to homeless sparks outrage

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A video appearing to show a person handing out machetes and alcohol to people on the streets of Southern U.S. cities has sparked outrage among Las Vegas community leaders. Why? Because Las Vegas might be next on the giveaway list.

The social media account ‘povwolfy’ has posted several videos featuring people appearing to be homeless receiving items that look like cigarettes, alcohol, and machetes. Dr. Catrina Grigsby-Thedford, executive director of the Nevada Homeless Alliance, also criticized the video of the supposed machete giveaway, saying, “That video is ridiculous. Giving weapons and machetes to people who are already vulnerable in situations, it just has a high potential for violence and harm.”
