LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Nevada Department of Wildlife has confirmed the presence of a fungus that causes white-nose syndrome in bats in Nevada for the first time.
The National Park Service detected Pseudogymnoascus destructans (Pd) fungus during their routine surveillance at Lake Mead National Recreation Area in Clark County.
“We knew it was a matter of time before Pd arrived in Nevada and we have been vigilantly surveying bats for many years now, not only for this fungus but also to track their population trends,” Jonathan Young, NDOW wildlife staff specialist, said. “Nevada’s bats are incredibly important, and this fungus could have serious implications for their conservation.”…
