Doubts emerge about Tony Hsieh’s possible will: ‘It’s all really strange’

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Five people signed a possible will for late Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh, but months after someone submitted the document to court, there is no proof that any of them exist.

Hsieh, who founded the shoe company, died in the aftermath of a fire in New London, Connecticut, on Friday, Nov. 27, 2020. He was 46.

At the time of his death, no will was filed or located. Lawyers for Hsieh’s estate, which Hsieh’s father administers, have repeatedly written in court documents that Hsieh did not have the mental capacity to sign off on contracts in the months and years leading up to his death. Court documents filed in 2021 indicate Hsieh used ketamine and nitrous oxide for years.

Since 2020, several people have filed creditors’ claims and lawsuits against the estate for payment. Since then, attorneys for the estate are overseeing how Hsieh’s massive wealth — estimated at more than $800 million — is divided.
