Convicted felon accused of shooting, killing Las Vegas neighbor’s dog

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A convicted felon is accused of shooting and killing his neighbor’s dog in the northwest Las Vegas valley, according to an arrest report.

Police arrested Sergio Ramirez on charges of willful/malicious torture/maim/kill an animal, discharging a firearm where a person might be endangered, prohibited person in possession of a firearm, and violation of probation/parole, police said.

On Dec. 3, around 7:10 a.m., police received a report from a man who said he woke up to find his 12-year-old Maltese dog, Simba, dead in his front yard. He said when he reviewed surveillance video from his home, it showed that just before 2 a.m., his neighbor appeared to shoot Simba from across the street unprovoked, the report said.

Officers reviewed the surveilled footage from the driveway camera of the home, which showed at 1:58 a.m., Simba standing in the middle of the street, not barking, and looking down the street. At the same time, a man was seen taking out the trash from the garage at another home and walking in between the cars in the driveway while talking on his phone, police said…
