Las Vegas driver accused of leading police on high-speed chase has lengthy criminal history

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man arrested for allegedly leading police on a reckless high-speed chase has an alias name and a lengthy criminal history, according to court documents.

Police arrested Emil Urias, 36, on Friday morning after officers spotted him driving erratically. Police said Urias tried to avoid arrest by driving on numerous streets before abandoning his vehicle.

Urias, who is also known as Michael Barreras, has a criminal record dating back to 2011 when he was arrested for trafficking cocaine, records said. He accepted a plea deal, dropping the charge to possession of a controlled substance, and was given probation with a suspended sentence of one to three years in prison.

He was arrested again in 2012 on charges of possessing drugs and in 2013 for battery on a protected person. According to records, he served around six months in the Nevada Department of Corrections in 2013.

Court records show he was arrested again in 2015 for possessing drugs and did community service and drug counseling, but failed to show up for a court hearing, and a judge issued a bench warrant for him. He then had two incidents in 2019 — one for possession of drugs and another for trespassing and again had a bench warrant issued for him when he failed to appear in court.

He was next arrested in 2020 for two felony charges involving a stolen vehicle and possession of drugs, court records stated…
