Henderson police unions, local public safety organizations to hold press conference to address email from city councilwoman

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Henderson police unions, along with other public safety organizations, are expected to hold a press conference Friday to address an email sent by Councilwoman Monica Larson, in which she “relinquished” an endorsement from one of the two major police unions in Henderson, 8 News Now confirmed Wednesday.

The press conference comes about a week after one of the two major police unions in Henderson pulled its support of the controversial city councilwoman. Larson, days after losing the union’s support, criticized the city’s largest police union Monday, saying that she no longer wanted its endorsement, the 8 News Now Investigators have confirmed.

The Henderson Police Officers Association was planning to meet with Ward 2 Councilwoman Larson to discuss a contentious exchange in June with an HPD sergeant that was caught on the sergeant’s body-worn camera, a story the 8 News Now Investigators detailed in a recent special report, the executive director, Andrew Regenbaum, of both unions said Monday.

Regenbaum said Larson “relinquished” the HPOA’s endorsement before she met with union leadership. In doing so, Larson apparently wrote a blistering email to the HPOA president and copied to city officials, portions of which were obtained by the 8 News Now Investigators on Monday.
