Vegas Youth Sports Rocked as Cops Probe Possible Child Victims

Las Vegas detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward after arresting a man they say sexually assaulted a child. Officials identified the suspect as 44-year-old Sergio Reyes Rojas, who was booked on multiple counts, including three counts of sexual assault of a child under 16, one count of child abuse or neglect and one count of kidnapping a minor. Detectives say Rojas has ties to youth sports programs across the valley and believe there may be additional victims who have not yet spoken to police.

In a news release, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed the arrest and listed the charges, saying Rojas was booked into the Clark County Detention Center, according to FOX5. The station also published a police photo of the suspect that LVMPD distributed with its statement.

Police Say Suspect Worked With Youth Sports Programs

Detectives told reporters that Rojas has ties to “multiple youth sports programs” across the Las Vegas valley, which is why they are now appealing directly to coaches, parents and league administrators, KTNV reports. The department did not name specific organizations in its brief statement but said investigators are following up on tips and working to corroborate information as it comes in. Anyone who recognizes the photo released by police, or who believes they may have been victimized, is urged to contact detectives for an interview.

How to Report Tips and Stay Anonymous

Anyone with information or who believes they may have been a victim is asked to contact the LVMPD Sexual Assault Detail at 702‑828‑3421. To remain anonymous, tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 702‑385‑5555. Police say tips can also be submitted online through the Crime Stoppers website and that investigators will follow up on credible leads. Victims and guardians can request victim-advocate support and information about forensic exams from local advocacy groups.

Charges and Next Steps

Rojas was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and will remain there pending review by the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, local outlets report. The counts against him are allegations at this stage and will be addressed in court. A department statement carried by both KTNV and FOX5 listed the charges; prosecutors will ultimately decide whether to file formal charges, set bail and schedule future court dates, according to KTNV.
