Judge dismisses lawsuit targeting homeless services center Campus for Hope

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Neighbors who are trying to stop the “Campus for Hope” project planned near Charleston Boulevard and Jones Boulevard lost their first attempt, but a judge’s ruling allows them to refile their lawsuit.

Campus for Hope is a $200 million project that will include a shelter and service hub for homeless people. Clark County, Las Vegas and North Las Vegas have committed to a partnership with the shelter.

A lawsuit filed in mid-June by residents James Root and Matthew Wambolt challenged the project, but a ruling by Clark County District Court Judge Danielle Pieper earlier this month said the plaintiffs failed to show that they had been negatively affected.

“Their asserted harms — possible future devaluation, neighborhood impacts, and general concerns about the Campus for Hope project — are speculative and do not create a justiciable controversy,” Pieper ruled…
