Las Vegas hospital performs state’s first complex aortic aneurysm surgery

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Las Vegas hospital is marking history in Nevada’s health care, offering a better treatment option for patients with some of the most dangerous vascular conditions.

Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center announced it has completed the state’s first FDA-approved minimally invasive repair for complex aortic aneurysms, a life-threatening condition involving the body’s main artery.

The aorta is responsible for delivering blood from the heart to vital organs throughout the chest and abdomen. When aneurysms form in hard-to-reach or complex areas of the vessel, treatment has traditionally required an extensive open surgery — often involving a large incision from the rib cage to the pelvis.
