Las Vegas man’s probation celebration ends with deadly shooting

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A celebration dinner and game night turned deadly for a Las Vegas man when he was shot multiple times, documents said.

Devonnie Smith, 32, was shot on Dec. 2 around 2 a.m. in the 400 block of South 15th Street, near Charleston Boulevard. Police records state that Smith was in court the morning of Dec. 1 on a gun charge and was excited because he received probation instead of a prison sentence.

The man accused of shooting him, 31-year-old Jaivone Jackson, is an ex-felon who served time in the Nevada Department of Corrections for child abuse and sex trafficking, records said.

Jackson was one of the people at dinner/game night. Smith’s girlfriend told police the two men stepped outside to smoke some marijuana, and when they came back inside, “Jaivone continued to antagonize Devonnie, telling him they didn’t need guns and could fight,” according to his arrest report.

The two men ended back outside, and Smith was shot, and Jackson drove away from the scene, according to documents…
