Clark County votes to appeal short-term rental ruling

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A new twist in the battle over short-term rentals in the Las Vegas valley. Owners were celebrating in December, after a federal judge blocked the county from issuing fines. However, Clark County pushed back Tuesday, unanimously approving an appeal to get that injunction thrown out.

Multiple short-term rental owners attended the county meeting to speak before the commissioners during public comment.

“I’m not surprised, of course, how the vote went because this is always the case in the county,” said Jacqueline Flores, Founder and President of the Greater Las Vegas Short-Term Rental Association. “They’re always passing regulations or making decisions that benefit the resort-hotel industry, instead of standing up for the rest of Las Vegas.”

She continued, “They have always been against it, but if they’re not willing to sit down and fix this, we’ll go all the way.”

That federal court order from December still blocks Clark County from enforcing fines on short-term rentals.

Owner Malee Simpson said she owns five short-term rental properties, and it’s been her primary source of income for the past decade…
