Meet ‘the hugging dog’: Special Las Vegas shelter dog needs forever home

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A 5-year-old Pit bull mix at the Animal Foundation has earned the nickname “the hugging dog” for her unique way of showing affection to anyone she meets.

Zar, who weighs 52 pounds, wraps her front legs around people and holds them as long as they allow. The dog came into Nevada’s largest shelter as a stray from Las Vegas streets on Christmas Eve and has spent both Christmas and New Year’s at the facility.

“I have worked at the Animal Foundation for six years, and I have never seen a dog like this before,” said Kelsey Pizzi, communications manager at the Animal Foundation. “Zar is a once-in-a-lifetime dog.”
