Las Vegas judge sentences 25-year-old for fatal punch

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 25-year-old man will serve at least a year in prison after punching another man, leading to that man’s death, a judge ruled Thursday.

Rickie Sanchez punched Florencio Lomeli in December 2022, leading to Lomeli’s death. Lomeli, an employee at an east Las Vegas valley autobody shop, died from complications of blunt force injuries to his head, the Clark County coroner’s office said, ruling his death a homicide.

Two days after the punch, Lomeli brought himself to a hospital “with complaints of a headache, nausea, and a possible brain bleed,” documents said. The hospital released him three days later. On Dec. 29, 2022, Lomeli returned to the hospital and was discharged the same day. Two days later, someone discovered Lomeli “unconscious and unresponsive” inside his home.
