Punk Icon Sued Ex-Bandmate for ‘Financial Malfeasance’ Hours After Group’s Final Show

NOFX bid farewell on Oct. 6, 2024, more than four decades after forming in Southern California. It was an emotional farewell to the group—Fat Mike (Michael Burkett), Eric Melvin, El Hefe (Aaron Abeya) and Erik “Smelly” Sandin—who helped redefine punk rock for generations.

But apparently, the tears were barely dry when the first lawsuit began to fly.

Shortly after they left the stage in San Pedro, guitarist Eric Melvin sued his now-former bandmate, Fat Mike. Erik Sandin, the band’s drummer, shared this revelation during a NOFX roundtable that took place at Las Vegas’s Punk Rock Museum over the past weekend.

“Eric Melvin is not here today with us because of the following reason: at 8 am on Monday morning, after the final NOFX show ever, Eric Melvin’s lawyers served Fat Mike legal papers accusing him of financial malfeasance,” said Sandin in a prepared statement…
