Community responds after alleged attack on scooter rider by kids at nearby park

A lawsuit has been filed following an alleged attack at Mountain’s Edge Regional Park, where a person riding a scooter was reportedly beaten by seven minors. The incident, which supposedly occurred on Jan. 18, 2024, left the victim with a broken jaw, according to the lawsuit. The victim is now seeking thousands in damages.

People who live near and frequent the park have expressed concerns about the greenspace behavior of unsupervised teens. I mean, it is like, what are you trying to hide. You know? It should be a red flag to parents that they need to do something.”

A woman who frequents the park with her granddaughter said, “The kids around here, they are always doing something wrong or illegal.” She added that the park becomes unruly once school is out, stating, “It is a family park until school is out. The parents of the seven minors named in the lawsuit could face up to $10,000 in damages if their children are found liable.

Khachatryan noted that the claim against the parents has a better chance of success than a claim against the county, which would require proof that the government was aware of the ongoing issues and failed to take appropriate safety measures.

Despite concerns about e-scooter misuse, Khachatryan stated, “There is really no evidence that this particular assault was linked to any kind of e-scooter gang activity.” She advised community members to document any such activities they witness…
