‘Shut it Down’ protestors gather in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Demonstrations took place across the country Friday, following widespread outrage over the recent death of intensive care nurse Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. Hundreds gathered in front of the federal courthouse in downtown Las Vegas, chanting anti-ICE phrases. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police were also on-scene, and barricades were up before the protest.

Fliers leading up to the protest called on the community to shut down the economy, asking people to stay home, not spend money, and step away from school or work for the day.

“I wanted to let my supervisors and bosses know where I stand,” said protestor Argelia Rico, who skipped work Friday. “Me missing work today isn’t a big deal, but if everybody at my job missed today, that’s how this is effective.”

Rico continued, “I can’t imagine what Latina women are going through in Minnesota right now, the fear, not being able to go to grocery stores, or take your kids to school.”…
