Las Vegas area police cite 50,000 drivers for registration violations in 2025

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Records 8 News Now obtained show police departments in the Las Vegas region cited more than 50,000 drivers for registration-related violations in 2025.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) had the strongest showing, with 39,105 citations.

“Metro clearly is doing a bang-up job on this,” J.D. Decker, chief of Nevada DMV’s Compliance Enforcement Division, said. Decker said his department cited around 1,000 in 2025, but the work is not finished.

“It’s still a problem; if you drive in the streets of Las Vegas, you can see that for yourself,” Decker said.

Decker said the DMV’s registration spotter is at nearly 30,000 reports.

“There’s literally no reason not to register your car at this point,” Decker said. “It can be done online. The department has made it very easy for people to register vehicles.”…
