Driver in Las Vegas hit-and-run that killed 12-year-old takes plea deal; DUI charge dropped

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The man accused of driving impaired and killing a 12-year-old walking to school pleaded guilty to a hit-and-run-related charge in court Monday morning.

Oh’Ryan Brooks, 27, was accused of driving impaired on Oct. 3 near Owens Avenue and 21st Street, where police said he hit and killed Cristofer Suarez, 12, before driving away.

Brooks originally faced DUI and reckless driving charges following the crash. On Monday, Feb. 23, Brooks took a deal to plead guilty to a charge of duty to stop at the scene of a crash resulting in death or bodily injury.

In October, Brooks told police he had just returned from taking two children to school and was on his way to pick up the next group of kids, as he helped a woman who had eight kids each day with school drop-off, according to an arrest report…
