LAS VEGAS, Nevada – An experienced rock climber originally from Ephrata, Washington is recovering from serious injuries after a terrifying fall hundreds of feet up a sandstone wall in Nevada that triggered a massive rescue operation involving helicopters, rope teams and volunteer medical personnel.
Now living in Camas, Jarred Jackman, 50, fell while climbing a difficult route at Red Rock Canyon near Las Vegas on Feb. 28, plunging an estimated 40 to 50 feet and striking the rock headfirst before coming to rest on a narrow ledge roughly 600 feet up the Dark Shadows Wall.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Search and Rescue team was dispatched around 11:50 a.m. after Jackman’s climbing partner, Danny Urioste, called 911 and provided rescuers with precise information about the accident and their location on the wall…
