LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Search and rescue crews responded to multiple emergencies Saturday at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, including an injured climber who fell and an 80-year-old hiker who was found after becoming separated from his group.

Climber injured in fall on Jackrabbit Buttress
Around 11 a.m. on Saturday, rescuers were called to Juniper Canyon after a climber fell while ascending a route on Jackrabbit Buttress.
Firefighters with Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Station 44 reached the injured climber at the base of the route and provided medical care. A search and rescue officer was later inserted by helicopter AIR3.

Rescuers moved the climber, who suffered a leg injury, to an extraction point where AIR3 airlifted the patient to the Pine Creek Canyon parking area and transferred them to a ground ambulance.
According to the climbing database Mountain Project, Jackrabbit Buttress is a large and complex climbing area that receives less traffic than other areas in Red Rock. The routes there are primarily traditional climbs, meaning climbers place their own protective gear into the rock rather than clipping into pre-installed bolts used in sport climbing.
