Toxic bloom at Lake Mead is Southern Nevada’s first in 2026

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Lake Mead officials are warning visitors in the Government Wash area about dangerous conditions because of poisons produced by blue-green algae.

The toxic Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) was initially reported on March 13. It’s the first of the season in Southern Nevada, and it arrived as warmer temperatures arrived in the region.
