High-Speed Red-Light Horror Kills Two At North Las Vegas Crossroads

A high-speed crash at a North Las Vegas intersection early Sunday left two people dead and two others injured, turning a quiet overnight stretch into a chaotic emergency scene at Lone Mountain Road and Clayton Street. First responders arrived to find both vehicles crushed and several people trapped inside. One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver later died at University Medical Center. Two additional occupants were rushed to the hospital and are expected to survive.

North Las Vegas Police were called at about 1:05 a.m. Sunday. According to preliminary findings, a 2016 Honda HR-V was headed east on Lone Mountain Road at a high rate of speed when it ran a red light and slammed into a 2005 Ford Expedition traveling north on Clayton Street. Investigators say the violent impact spun both vehicles through the intersection and into fixed objects, including a power pole and a wall. Impairment is suspected, and officers obtained a search warrant for blood samples from the Honda’s driver. The Clark County coroner will release the victims’ names and official causes of death, as reported by FOX5.

Speed and Impairment Remain a Deadly Combo on Nevada Roads

Across Nevada, crash data and state safety plans keep circling back to the same culprits: speed and impairment. Both are regularly flagged as top contributors to deadly wrecks, with Clark County among the hardest-hit regions. The Nevada Strategic Highway Safety Plan and the Zero Fatalities Nevada initiative continue to focus on targeted enforcement, roadway design changes and public education to rein in high-risk driving. According to Zero Fatalities Nevada, speed-related crashes make up roughly one-third of the state’s traffic deaths and remain a central target for safety efforts.
