Cold front with strong gusts up to 40 mph hits the valley

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — After an unusual heat wave, the valley gets hit with a cold front and strong gusty winds, causing a Lake Wind Advisory to be in effect for several areas.

Gusty southwest winds reached between 30 and 40 mph overnight in many valley areas. Some areas are still expected to have breezy winds up to 25 mph today. Morning high clouds will eventually slip south by the afternoon. Highs will warm to slightly above normal, at 78 degrees.

After our warmest March ever — and even the warmest April — temperatures are finally back to feeling seasonal for early spring. However, it’ll be short-lived. Spring is our “shoulder season” when temperatures and winds ride a rollercoaster, influenced by disturbances that move in from the Pacific. We have another one coming tonight with a cold front that will bring strong and cooler northwest winds up to 40 mph for the valley, with stronger gusts in the mountains and along the Colorado River.

The cold front will pass through this evening and will usher in a drop in temps, too. Friday morning will feel much cooler with the combination of cooler temps and chilly north winds. Cool north breezes will stick around through the day on Friday, and even persist along the Colorado River through Saturday…
