Climbers at Red Rock, family of 4 at Valley of Fire rescued in separate missions

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Rescuers responded to calls for help 60 miles apart on Friday, getting a pair of climbers out of trouble at Red Rock and finding a lost family at Valley of Fire.

At about 9 p.m. Friday, Metro Search and Rescue (SAR) responded to a 911 call from climbers who mistakenly entered a canyoneering route with the nerve-rattling name “Epinephrine Error” as they were descending on a climb in Black Velvet Canyon in Red Rock National Conservation Area.

When their ropes got stuck as they were preparing for one of the last rappels on the route, they had to call 911.

AIR3 took a rescuer and a volunteer with extensive canyoneering experience to the scene and placed them where they could get to the climbers. After reaching the climbers, the rescuers helped them up their ropes and then across to a suitable extraction point.

AIR3 brought out the climbers and the rescuers on separate trips.
