Henderson Man Admits Stabbing Girlfriend 20 Times, Now Awaits Long Prison Term

Months after a grim 911 call from a southeast Henderson condo, Maurice Vanderhall has admitted to fatally stabbing his girlfriend and taken a plea deal that will put him behind bars for at least a decade. Court documents show Vanderhall pleaded guilty to second‑degree murder with a deadly weapon and, under the agreement, faces a minimum prison term of 10 years. The plea brings legal closure to a case that began with a Dec. 2 police call in southeast Henderson.

Police say officers were sent to the 200 block of West Horizon Ridge Parkway on Dec. 2 after a man told dispatch he had killed his girlfriend and then let officers into the condo, where they found a woman with multiple stab wounds, according to the Las Vegas Review‑Journal. The suspect, identified as a 28‑year‑old man, was taken to a hospital for treatment before being booked into custody, and authorities treated the incident as one of the city’s homicides for 2025, FOX5 reported. Investigators asked anyone with information to contact Henderson police or Crime Stoppers.

As outlined by 8 News Now, Vanderhall pleaded guilty on March 17 and accepted a deal negotiated with the Clark County District Attorney’s Office that carries a minimum of 10 years behind bars and exposes him to a maximum of either 25 years or life. The report names the victim as 26‑year‑old Kennedi Oriti and says the Clark County coroner found at least 20 stab wounds on her body, some of them defensive. Investigators also recovered three bloodied knives, including a butcher knife. Court documents and the arrest report indicate Vanderhall told police he attempted to take his own life after the attack.

Evidence and investigators’ account

The Las Vegas Review‑Journal reported that a family friend who had been helping Oriti move waited outside while she went back into the condo to “say goodbye,” and later saw police vehicles arrive at the complex. According to FOX5, investigators have been processing the unit and working with the coroner’s office as forensic testing continues. Police reiterated that anyone who saw suspicious activity at the complex on Dec. 2 should contact Henderson police or Crime Stoppers.

Legal fallout and next steps

Under the plea reported by 8 News Now, Vanderhall is scheduled to be sentenced on May 6, 2026. Victim‑impact statements, prosecutors’ recommendations and any defense submissions will be on the table at the hearing before a judge imposes a final term. The plea takes a trial off the calendar but leaves the exact length of Vanderhall’s sentence in the hands of the court…
