Las Vegas Lights FC earned a 1-1 draw with Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday night at Cashman Field, trading first-half goals and then grinding through a chippy second half that never found a winner.
The Lights moved to 1-2-3 and 5 points. Sacramento is 2-3-1 with 9 points.
Guillen jumps it early
Las Vegas struck first in the 20th minute when Aaron Guillen found the breakthrough, giving the Lights a 1-0 lead and a jolt of confidence at home. The opening goal rewarded a solid first 30 minutes that looked organized and direct, with the Lights getting into good areas without overplaying.
Kaye answers fast
Sacramento responded quickly and clinically. Mark-Anthony Kaye leveled the match in the 30th minute, making it 1-1 and resetting the night before it could tilt too far toward Las Vegas.
That goal also set the tone for the rest of the match. Both sides stayed compact, and the next clear chance never arrived with enough quality to change the score.
