Tenant says squatters keep breaking into her Charleston apartment complex

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A tenant at a gated apartment complex on Charleston Boulevard between Fremont and Mojave says squatters have been repeatedly breaking into units on weekends, leaving residents feeling unsafe and frustrated by what she describes as limited enforcement options when property management is not on site.

Jessica, who lives at the Ridge on Charleston, said she contacted police but was told by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department that squatters could not be removed when management was not available after office hours to verify whether the people inside had a valid lease.

“As a single woman, walking my dog just simply around my building is always something scary,” Jessica said.

She said she did not realize how widespread the issue was until it affected her personally.

“I know that it happens. I just was not aware to what extent until it personally affected me now,” she said…
