But when you look at how much of residents’ income actually disappears into state and local coffers, Nevada lands squarely in the middle of the national pack. WalletHub’s annual breakdown, prepared for reporters, does not exactly crown Nevada a tax haven. The state came in 27th overall, with a combined state and local tax burden of about 8.37% of residents’ income. According to CPA Practice Advisor, that total reflects a sizable sales-and-excise share of roughly 6.28% of income and a smaller property piece of about 2.09%, while the personal income tax rate remains at 0%.
