LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A judge Wednesday sentenced the man who went on the run for about 16 years after killing his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend execution-style in 2008 to at least 20 years in prison.
Jonathan Romero, 35, pleaded guilty to a first-degree murder charge in February. In court on Wednesday, Clark County District Court Judge Michelle Leavitt sentenced Romero to 20 to 50 years in prison with 586 days credit for time served.

On July 18, 2008, Romero found his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend, David Manriquez, 18, hiding in a closet in her home near Lamb Boulevard and Washington Avenue. Romero shot him execution-style, according to Clark County grand jury transcripts obtained by the 8 News Now Investigators.

Romero then fled the country and was arrested about 16 years later in Mexico, according to Metro police.
