Man arrested in Miami in connection with 2024 Birmingham homicide

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – The Birmingham Police Department has arrested a 33-year-old man from Georgia in connection to the 2024 homicide of 31-year-old Deundray Cottrell.

Cottrell was reported missing on Thursday, July 4, 2024, in the area of 4th Avenue North, where his family’s home was. He had come to Birmingham from Atlanta to visit family.

Friday, July 5, Birmingham Police supervisors began searching the area, and located some clothing items, and received surveillance footage from a community member who believed that Cottrell was on the footage walking in the area. Officials said based on the clothing items and the surveillance footage, they had a general area of where to look when they continued their search Saturday, July 6.

Cottrell’s body was found on Saturday, July 6, inside a shed in the backyard of an abandoned home on 5th Avenue South, only a block away. He had been strangled to death…
