Soak City: Miami Braces for Muggy Downpours, King Tides and Flooded Streets

Scattered showers and thunderstorms developed Wednesday, with the National Weather Service forecasting a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms in Miami tonight, mainly between 1 and 2 a.m. The latest Miami forecast keeps a chance of storms overnight.

Wednesday’s daytime forecast called for a 60% chance of rain, with showers and thunderstorms most likely in the afternoon and evening. For tonight, the National Weather Service now forecasts a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 1 and 2 a.m. The updated Miami forecast also calls for a low around 79 and says heavier rainfall is possible in thunderstorms.

South Florida’s flood risk comes from two sources this week: heavy rain and unusually high tides. The National Weather Service says a stalled front is helping keep deep moisture over the region, with repeated downpours raising the chance of localized flooding, especially in the east-coast metro. The City of Miami’s King Tide calendar lists Oct. 7–13 as a high-tide window; the city warns that these tides can flood low-lying streets even when it is not raining…
