High-Speed Crash in Broward County Results in Two Fatalities

The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a three-car collision that occurred on Sunday, August 11, 2024, resulting in two fatalities and leaving a third person in critical condition.

At approximately 3:57 p.m., BSO deputies responded to the scene at the intersection of Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest Sixth Street in unincorporated Central Broward near Fort Lauderdale.

According to preliminary reports, a 2023 Tesla Model 3, driven by 19-year-old Gavin Dorvil of Lauderdale Lakes, was traveling westbound on Northwest Sixth Street at a high rate of speed. At the same time, a 2023 Dodge Durango was heading southbound on Northwest 27th Avenue.

The Tesla collided with the driver’s side of the Durango in a T-bone style impact, redirecting both vehicles in a southwestern direction. The force of the collision caused the Durango to strike a 2024 Chevrolet Trax that was stopped at the intersection, traveling eastbound on Northwest Sixth Street. The Trax rolled over onto its roof, coming to rest in the eastbound lanes of Northwest Sixth Street. The Tesla and Durango continued southwest, crashing through a chain link fence surrounding a nearby cemetery, where they finally came to rest.
