Miami, New Orlean Winter Freeze Not Until Christmas

Climate Centrals’ new data shows when each part of the US should expect its first freeze. The figures are based on averages from 1991 to 2020. For much of the nation, the first freeze will be in October, and in November, in the far south, the date will be closer to Christmas, which is the forecast for New Orleans and Miami.

Of course, there are some years when a few American cities have temperatures below 332 degrees F. According to Axios, this winter, these will include LA and San Diego.

For those who would like to watch Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in person, the first freeze is expected on November 22.

Data do not say whether these “freeze dates” come earlier in the year due to global climate change. One year is not a trend if climate science has a signature message. Based on that, if Detroit does not have a freezing day until March, despite the temptation to do so, it will not provide information to draw a reasonable conclusion.

It will freeze somewhere in September, October, November, and December. It is just not certain where that will be.
