Citi to Launch First Florida Branch in Seven Years

It’s been seven years since Citibank last opened a new branch in South Florida, but that’s about to change. If you’ve been keeping an eye on banking in the area, you know the landscape has shifted—fewer brick-and-mortar branches, more people banking online. Yet, despite the digital shift, Citibank is doubling down on the community by rolling out its first new physical location in the region since 2017.

This new branch isn’t just any location—it’s a fresh start for Citi in Tamiami, set to open in early 2025 at 2375 S.W. 122nd Ave. You might recognize the spot as the old BB&T, a building that’s been vacant since Truist acquired BB&T back in 2019. But now, Citi is stepping in to give it new life. It’s a good-sized space, about 3,848 square feet, and it will soon be buzzing with customers once again.

What’s interesting here isn’t just the opening itself, but what it represents. Citibank is South Florida’s fourth-largest bank, holding $23.6 billion in deposits across its 52 branches in the tri-county area as of June 30. That’s a hefty 7.15% of the local market share. So, this isn’t just a quiet reopening—this is a signal that Citi is firmly planting its flag in the region, despite the wave of digital banking.
