31 Arrested, 80 Firearms Seized In South Florida Crackdown On Gun And Drug Trafficking

A two-month federal crackdown in South Florida targeting repeat offenders has led to the arrests of 31 people and the seizure of dozens of firearms and illegal drugs, authorities announced this week.

The enforcement effort, dubbed “Operation Showdown,” was launched in April by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to disrupt violent crime and illegal weapons trafficking in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. The operation drew in ATF agents from across the country to work alongside local and federal partners in tactical and undercover roles.

So far, the operation has resulted in federal firearms and narcotics trafficking charges against 31 individuals. Authorities seized 80 firearms — including automatic and semiautomatic rifles, handguns, and machine gun conversion devices — as well as 900 rounds of ammunition. They also confiscated roughly 10 kilograms of illicit drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, crack, and oxycodone…
