Could property taxes end in Florida? With $11 million at risk, Rep. Lopez tells Council caution is needed

Will you no longer have to pay property taxes in Florida?

That idea will be heavily discussed when the Legislative Session begins in January, said State Rep. Vicki Lopez, who addressed Village Council and the public Thursday night prior to Key Biscayne’s first budget hearing.

Lopez said property owners might see, at least, some kind of tax relief if the 37-member House Select Committee on Property Taxes, of which she is a co-chair, can find some solutions, or if the Legislature places a constitutional amendment before voters next November and it passes with at least 60% approval…
