A Coral Springs traffic stop led to the discovery of fentanyl and a firearm during a police investigation. The incident took place on Thursday last week when officers observed a black Chevrolet Avalanche at a Mobil gas station. The driver, 42-year-old Ryan Eugene Cohee of Davie, was found to have a suspended license, according to Coral Springs Talk.
After Cohee left the station, police monitored the vehicle and later pulled it over for speeding. Officers reported the smell of cannabis and saw a lit joint, which Cohee said was medical marijuana but could not provide a valid card. A K-9 unit signaled the presence of drugs, prompting a search of the vehicle.
Police found a hidden compartment under the console containing a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun with an extended magazine and ammunition. Cohee, who has eight prior felony convictions, is not permitted to possess firearms. Detectives also located a tactical backpack with a digital scale, pill bottles, and a bag containing fentanyl.
