South Florida Food Pantries to Know Amid SNAP Benefits Pause

Millions of Americans, including 3 million Floridians who rely on federal food assistance, may see their benefits paused this week as the federal government shutdown continues.

On November 1, as the country marks one month of a federal government shutdown, millions of Floridians are slated to lose access to their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, also known as food stamps. Florida’s Department of Children and Families (DCF), which manages SNAP benefits for the state, has warned Floridians that the benefits won’t be available in November “until federal funding is restored.”
