PORT EVERGLADES, Fla. (CBS12) — Over 17,000 pounds of cocaine, worth more than $130 million, was offloaded in Port Everglades on Friday.
The United States Coast Guard said the contraband resulted from four interdictions in international waters of the Eastern Pacific Ocean. Crews say they offloaded a total of 17,750 pounds of cocaine that was worth more than $133.5 million in Port Everglades.
On January 25, the crew of the USCGC Seneca detected a go-fast vessel and used its helicopter to intercept it. When the team boarded the vessel, they seized approximately 4,410 pounds of cocaine.
Six days later, on January 31, the Coast Guard was alerted to three more go-fast vessels, leading to the seizure of an additional 13,340 pounds of cocaine.
“I am extremely proud of the crew’s incredible performance and adaptability during this deployment,” said Capt.
