Over 26 years before Tuesday’s fatal crash of an NBC Los Angeles news helicopter, NBC6 suffered a similar tragedy in South Florida.
It was the afternoon of March 3, 2000, when NBC6 photojournalist Rob Pierce and pilot Ruben Rivero were killed in a crash in southwest Miami-Dade.
Pierce, who’d won multiple awards for his work covering hurricanes and breaking news, was just 34. Rivero was 42.
