The No. 8-ranked Miami Hurricanes are one of the top teams in the country and a favorite to make the College Football Playoff this season, and senior quarterback Cam Ward is a big reason why.
Through five games, Ward is completing 70.2% of his passes and he’s thrown for 1,782 yards, 18 touchdowns and just four interceptions, and the Hurricanes have the top-ranked passing offense (392.6 yards per game) and second-ranked total offense (585.6 yards per game) in the country.
Because of Ward’s explosiveness and big-play ability, Miami fans are thinking about a national championship for the first time in a while, and ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit is right there with them.
“I’ll say this, Miami hasn’t had a quarterback since Ken Dorsey — a guy that can win a championship,” Herbstreit said during Saturday’s “College GameDay.” “This is a big opportunity on the road tonight here in [California for Ward to prove he’s that guy].”
Ward leads the country in touchdown passes, and he ranks fourth in passing yards, fifth in yards per pass (11.1) and 14th in completion percentage, but what makes him so dangerous is his ability to beat opposing defenses with the deep ball.
